Jaganmohan Reddy

Jaganmohan ReddyLatest News Update About Jaganmohan Reddy, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, son of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has announced his resignation as Member of Parliament from Kadapa constituency and from the Congress party.

Mr. Reddy wrote an open letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Monday morning informing her about his decision and expressing anguish at what he called the attempts of the party leaders to isolate and expel him. Copies of the letters were faxed to the media.

Leaders in Mr. Jagan's camp indicated that YSR's wife, Y. S Vijayalakshmi, would also resign from her Pulivendula Assembly seat in Kadapa district. As a mark of solidarity, the Kadapa District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Suresh Babu, and all office-bearers tendered their resignations and sat in a dharna outside the party office. The protestors locked the DCC office, tore a large cut-out of Ms. Sonia Gandhi and beat it with footwear. In Anantapur too, Mr. Jagan's followers burnt an effigy of Ms. Gandhi and made an abortive bid to attack the DCC office.

The Congress MP has been loggerheads with his party leadership ever since the death of his father on September 2, 2009. What precipitated his resignation on Monday was the active efforts of the Congress leadership to woo YSR's younger brother Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy, an MLC, by considering him for a berth in the Cabinet of the new Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Simultaneously, the Congress is in talks with Praja Rajyam President K. Chiranjeevi for possible inclusion of his party MLAs in the Council of Ministers.
