Indian Railways rolled out it’s first air-conditioned double-decker train in Kapurthala district of Jalandhar on Saturday, Oct 16. The new train of eight coaches was made by Rail Coach Factory (RCF) and will run between Howrah and Dhanbad. The train is made up of stainless steel and can run up to the speed of 180 kilometer per hour.
Each coach can accommodate 128 passengers. Electricity in these coaches will be supplied through power cars attached at both sides of the train. It is designed with all kinds of safety features and will reduce impact on the passengers in case of an accident.
Pradeep Kumar, General Manager of Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, told that the new double-decker train will have a speed of 160 kilometer per hour. He also added that the train will be introduced on stretches not more than 500 km long as there are no sleeper facilities yet.
