Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councilors of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation got into fisticuffs and some even had their shirts torn off over expulsion of a BJP councilor by the Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal.
The incident occurred when the Congress councilors, who are in minority, demanded the expulsion of Riddhkaran, a BJP councilor, over alleged slapping of a Congress councilor.
India News: The Congress members entered the well of the house and started shouting slogans against the BJP and Riddhkaran. Sensing trouble, Jyoti Khandelwal, who is from the Congress, expelled the councilor for half an hour from the house.
This led to a bedlam in the house as the angry BJP members started shouting slogans against the mayor’s decision and soon it led to a free for all in the house.
The general body meeting turned into a battlefield. Chaos took over the meeting as BJP and Congress members exchanged blows.
“This kind of scene was never witnessed in JMC… councilors were fighting… clothes were torn and it seemed that it was sort of a battlefield,” an eyewitness said.
