polio drops schedule 2010Polio Drops Schedule 2010, The Pulse Polio 2010 Programme was launched on Saturday by President Pratibha Patil, who administered the new vaccine to ten children in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The present campaign aims to vaccinate around 170 million children with an estimated 2.5 million babies likely to receive the new polio drops.

With the aim of completely eradicating Polio, January 10 would be observed as the National Immunisation Day, in which millions of children under the age of five would receive the vaccination against the deadly polio virus. A significant feature of the Pulse Polio 2010 Programme would include a bivalent oral polio vaccine (BOPV), which would be introduced in the country for the first time today.

The polio drops schedule would be observed all across the country especially in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which are among the worst effected states of India. The Pulse Polio Programme was launched for the first time in the year 1995 in a bid to completely eradicate the crippling disease. This resulted in the eradication of the third type of the virus P2 from the country in 1999.
