Maharashtra Shree 2010 Latest News Update: Billed as a mega event to glamourise the sport of body building, the ‘Maharashtra Shree’ competition, to be held on March 20 at Shivaji Park here, promises an exciting fare for the spectators. Suhas Khamkar of Mumbai, the holder of the Mr. India title is the favourite for the title. Khamkar, who missed the bus for the Arnold Classic Competition in Ohio, a couple of weeks ago due to visa problems is in splendid form. He faces a challenge from recently crowned ‘Mumbai Shree’ Rehan Dhuri and Manish Advilkar (both Mumbai), Pritam Singh (Pune) Ganesh Pawar (Kolhapur), Akshay Gaikwad, Hitesh Nikam, Kiran Pawar and Bharat Thakur (all from Nashik) besides city boys Vishwanath Gawade, Kiran Keni and Ganesh Urankar. The top prize of Rs 1.51 lakh is the highest ever offered at this level. The competition has become more significant as it serves as a trial to select the state team for the forthcoming Nationals at Goa from April 9-11. Organized by , the competition is set to change the face of the sport completely in Mumbai and the country.
To be held under the auspices of the State and Mumbai Bodybuilding association, the competition is being organised by Uttar Prabha, a social organization led by Dr. Amar Mishra with the help of Kabaddi and Bodybuilding mandals from Worli, Prabhadevi and Dadar, will witness close to 300 bodybuilders vie for the top honours besides the first six places in seven weight categories. The top place in a group will fetch a sum of Rs 10,000 from the total Rs 32,000 on offer for each group. There are individual prizes for the best poser and most improved bodybuilder of the year too. In all, prize money and gifts worth Rs 5 lakhs are there to be won on the day.
The organisers have constructed a 60 x 30 foot stage for the event which commences at 1730 hrs on Saturday. The pre-judging will take place on Friday, March 19 at Shivaji Mandir, Dadar from 1530 hrs onwards, Rana Tiwari, the Organizing Secretary of the competition informed in a press release issued here today.
