Nisha Priya Bhatia Raw | Nisha Bhatia, A former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) woman official, who had attempted suicide in front of the prime minister’s office two years back, Thursday stumped the Delhi High Court by disrobing inside a courtroom, prompting the judge to order her mental health check-up.

Nisha Bhatia, around 48, removed her upper garment before Justice Ajit Bharihoke about 10.45 a.m. She was restrained by women constables. She tried to repeat the act later in the day.

“The behaviour of the petitioner (Nisha Priya Bhatia) in baring herself in the open court is highly deplorable and it gives an impression that she is not mentally sound. It is not a case of solitary instance but she, even in the post-lunch session, tried to indulge in the same act, which is not expected from a normal person,” Justice Bharihoke said, while ordering her mental health check-up.

“Her conduct, considered in the background of the case registered against her under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code wherein she has been chargesheeted for having attempted to commit suicide in front of the prime minister’s office, leaves a lingering doubt in the minds about her mental condition,” he added.

The court, which had ordered her detention in the forenoon when she took off her jacket and bared herself after the hearing on her case was adjourned, asked police to take her to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for a check up.

Bhatia created a ruckus in the court as the judge adjourned the hearing on her petition against Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Ajay Pandey and Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Pritam Singh.

Bhatia, who once headed the training cell of the Research and Analysis Wing, had filed a petition against lower court judges alleging that she was harassed and humiliated outside their courts. She said the court was helping Ashok Chaturvedi, her boss and former secretary of RAW.

“Appropriate action against ACMM amd MM must be taken as they are biased and unprofessional while handling the matter,” Bhatia said.

She accused Chaturvedi of sexual harassment. She accused him of calling her into his office at odd times and passing lewd remarks, a charge denied by Chaturvedi.

Following the court order, when Bhatia was being taken away she broke down saying: “Please help me. I have got three school-going children.”

A woman lawyer came to her rescue and pleaded for her release on the ground that she has to pick up her daughter from a school.

Justice Bharihoke then decided to hear the matter in his chamber and remarked: “I will send her to jail. She has also created a lot of problem in the court of ACMM, I think she is a mentally-deranged woman.”

As Bhatia repeated her act during the in-camera proceedings as well, the court decided to send her to a hospital for check up. “Bhatia to be taken forthwith by the SHO (station house officer) concerned under the escort of lady constables and produce her before the medical superintendent of the IHBAS,” said the court.

“She will be admitted there to carry out a complete check-up. The report about her mental condition be submitted in the court before the next date of hearing that is on Feb 28,” Justice Bharihoke said.

The court said: “She shall be free to go back if she is not suffering from a mental disorder, which necessitates her detention in a hospital for psychiatric treatment with a view to ensure her safety and for the protection of others.”

Bhatia in August 2008 tried to commit suicide outside the prime minister’s office and was termed as mentally unstable by the cabinet secretariat.

She alleged that she had been framed in various criminal cases and that her services had been terminated.

After Bhatia had attempted suicide, a cabinet secretariat statement issued Aug 19, 2008, said that while working as a director in the secretariat in 2007, Bhatia had lodged a complaint alleging sexual harassment by the joint secretary.

The release said the complaint was enquired into by a committee constituted as per apex court guidelines. But Bhatia had withdrawn her complaint. She was given several opportunities to present her case but she refused to cooperate with the committee, the release said.

Despite this, the committee completed its probe May 19, 2008 and found that her allegations could not be substantiated.

The committee also found that her behaviour on a number of occasions appeared to indicate a disturbed state of mind and recommended medical counselling for her.

MUMBAI India News, The Shiv Sena wants the burqa to be banned saying it is being misused for stealing children from hospitals. "A two-month-old boy has been stolen from VN Desai hospital at Santacruz. It was found that a burqa-clad woman stole the baby," the editorial said, addressing its questions to home minister RR Patil. The CCTV footage showed a person wearing white shoes but clad in a burqa. What is the use of such footage?"

The party has appealed to Muslim organisations to support the demand and prevent the misuse of the garment. "The burqa is being used to steal children. This is against Islam and Muslims should support the ban," the editorial said.

Editorials are often seen as Sena chief, Bal Thackeray's, stand on various issues.

The editorial called French President Nicolas Sarkozy a "revolutionary" for banning the burqa despite opposition. It also cited the example of Turkey where President Kemal Pasha banned the burqa after a man from the enemy camp attended a secret meeting wearing one.

"If a Muslim country and a Muslim leader could do it, without letting the issue of Islam come in, India should not fear," the editorial said.

It said the burqa poses a threat to hospitals and in election voting queues because there is no way of knowing who is behind the veil.

The Sena also said the garment represses Muslim women. "Is the Rs 65,000-crore being spent on upliftment of Muslim women, following the recommendations of the Sacchar committee, only to keep them inside a burqa?' the editorial asked.

Minister of state for medical education, Varsha Gaikwad, dismissed the Sena's demand.

"It is only a political stunt. The issue is very sensitive. I have asked hospitals and the police to keep vigil. I will meet home minister RR Patil on Wednesday and we will look at how the issue can be resolved," Gaikwad said.

Chitragupta Aarti: According to Hinduism, Brahma is the creator of the universe. He has created plants,animals, sea, mountains and the human being. Mythology states that humans created from the 'mouth' portion of Brahma were Brahmins, those from arms were 'Kshatriyas', those from the thighs were 'Vaishyas' and those from the feet were 'Shudras'. He asked 'Surya' to take care and protect the universe and himself went into deep meditation for ten thousand of years.

Thereafter when he opened his eyes he saw an illustrious man with broad shoulders, eyes like a lotus, long neck and carrying a pen and inkpot in the hands. Brahma asked that man who he was. The man replied that he was born out of Brahma and asked to give him a name and allocate duties. Brahma told him that as he was born out of his body (kaya) he would be classed as 'Kayastha' and he would be called by the name of 'Chitragupt' on the earth. He was asked by Brahma to perform his duties of keeping an account of every person good and bad deeds in the offices of Dharma Raj, supposed to be situated in 'Yampuri'.

Chitragupta was also blessed to produce his progency. Thus as the story goes 'Chitragupta' was the progenitor of us, the Kayasthas, and it is therefore our duty to worship him and offer our Prayers.

Hindu Mythology believes that the entire world, that was created by Lord Bramha, the Creator. Lord Bramha first created 16 Sons from various parts of his own body. Shree Chitraguptjee, his 17th creation, is believed to be the creation from Lord Bramha's belly. Thus, Shree Chitraguptjee is the divine incarnation in human form. Called Kayastha since he is the only one created in entirety [Kaya] from the Lord Bramha's body. chitragupta

There is a legend behind worshipping Lord Chitragupta. Shree Chitraguptjee is the divine incarnation in human form and is called Kayastha for the reason of being the only one created in entirety from the Lord Bramha's body.

People of the Kayastha community offer puja to Lord Chitragupt for world peace, justice, knowledge and literacy. These are the four primary virtues depicted by the form of Shree Chitraguptjee.

This is also called Dawaat (Inkpot) puja. The books and pen are worshipped on this occasion. This symbolizes that study is very important in the life of a Kayastha.

The Duty Of Chitragupt Ji Maharaj

Hindu Dharam is based on a multiple phase life cycle involving re-birth. It is believed that those who do not attain a balance between their good-deeds and misdoing, have to attain re-birth in any living form , to complete the life cycle.

It is also described in this regard that Lord Brahma gave the ruling of death to Yamaraja. Yamaraja was often confused where to send a particular human being, to hell or heaven. He requested Lord Bramha for someone to assit him and Bramha created Chitragupta holding inkpot and book to keep track of every person's good and bad deed and report to Yamaraj.

The primary duty awarded to Shree Chitraguptjee is to create log of the lives of all living beings, judge their lives based on good-deeds and misdoing, and decide, upon ones death, whether they will attain Nirvana, ie, the completion of their life cycle & redemption from all worldly troubles or, receive punishment for their misdoing in another life form.

Chitragupta Puja, also known as Dawat Puja, is a ritual observed during Diwali festival. Chitragupta Puja 2010 date is November 7. It is celebrated on Bhai Dooj, two days after Diwali, in North India. Chitragupta Pooja marks the birthday or Jayanthi of Chitragupta and it is mainly celebrated by Katyastha caste.

On Chitragupta Jayanthi or Chitragupta Pooja, Chitragupta is worshipped with shodashopachar puja by Kayastha people. This puja is also known as Dawat Puja which is the biggest festival for Kayastha caste.

Puja Process

First clean the Puja room and then Bath Chitragupt Ji's idol or photo first with water, then with panchamitra/or rose water, followed by water once more. Now put Deepak (Lamp) of ghee in front of the Chitragupt Ji. Make a Panchamitra with 5 ingredients of milk, curd, ghee (clarified butter), sugar & Honey. Place Few mithais, snacks & fruits as a prashad. Make Guraadi (Gur + Adi = Molasses + Ginger). Make offerings of flowers, Abir (red colour), Sindoor (vermillion) and Haldi (turmeric). Light the Agarbatti (incense sticks) and lamps filled with Ghee. Read the holy book of Chitragupta puja. After the completion of Katha, perform aarti. Now take plain new paper & make swastik with roli-ghee, then write the name of five god & goddess with a new pen.

Place of worship is first cleaned. Seep chalk & Swastika is drawn on the ground or on some wooden board. A satia is drawn and is decorate by drawing lines on all the four sides. On this the god or goddess to be worshipped is placed. Vermilion is applied on the foreheads of god or goddess idols or photograph.

Earthen lamp or any other type of lamp is lit. In the pooja Vermilion paste, rice, aepen & water in small vessel is kept. These preparation are done little ahead of conducting pooja.

For performing pooja the ring finger is used for dipping and sprinkling water, vermilion, aepen. First the pooja is performed with water then aepen and roli (vermilion) then little rice is touched to the eyes and offered to the god or goddess.

The pooja offerings are done three time each (Sprinkle water ,aepen, roli and chawal )three time each.

Thereafter write your Name, Address (permanent & present), Date (hindi date) your income & expenditure. Then fold the the paper & put before Chitragupt Ji.

India: Karnataka Reserves Quota For Transgenders

It was a jubilant day for the transgender community in India’s southern Karnataka state as the government issued an order to implement reservation quota for them.

The Karnataka government had previously issued orders of providing various facilities to the community, who are now included in the 2A category of the Backward Class Commission.

Transgenders welcomed the step taken by the state government. “We welcome the Karnataka government taking decision, you know, including transgenders under the Backward Classes Commission in the class 2A. We will be getting 40 percent of reservation for entire transgenders. Now, the Karnataka government has, you know, has included transgenders in the…saying that ‘Lingatva Alpasankhyatro’, that is general minorities. Under these general minorities, we will be having Hijras, Kothis, Kothis means persons with a feminine character, and also, we will be having Jogappas, where you can see them in north Karnataka, and also having Mangalmukhis,” said Akai, advocacy coordinator of an organization ‘Sangma’ in Bangalore city. Sangma is an organization, which works for the rights of the transgenders. The final report, in July 2010, of the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission had recommended the inclusion of transgender community under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category as ‘Mangalmukhi’ and inclusion of children of sex workers and HIV positive people as ‘Sankula’. The recommendations were first submitted to the government one-an-a half year ago, but were not implemented.

Kaun Banega Crorepati 4: The superstar of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan will celebrate his 68th birthday with commence of TV reality show KBC 4 (Kaun Banega Crorepati-4). The 4th edition of KBC will be aired tonight on the entertainment channel Sony TV.

The actor, who has had pretty an exciting year as he won the prominent Best Actor National Award for his act in 'Paa', is looking forward to a pleasant birthday celebration with his friends and family.

Amitabh said that "I am going to be at home… I`ll be spending it with family". As for his son and daughter-in-law, Abhishek and Aishwarya, the actor assured that they will be coming down from South Korea for his birthday.

But, looks like his friends and family aren't the only ones eager for his special day. According to the reports, the channel has also arranged a birthday bash for the actor.

Amitabh said that "I am not sure what the channel wants me to do; They want me to cut a cake or something like that because they just want to be a part of my birthday so that`s fine; I may go out and cut a cake or something like that; But generally I remain at home, I meet the family, be with them and yes if there are people who want to come and see me, then I go out and meet them."

Ajmal Kasab’s Appeal Hearing Against Death Sentence

An Indian court was on Monday to begin hearing an appeal against a death sentence handed to Ajmal Kasab.

Prosecution on the other argued that why should the verdict be upheld, since the attacks were classic case of sponsored terrorism, created out of extreme hatred against India. Appeal-hearing of Muhammed Ajmal Amir Kasab has began in High Court against his death sentence pronounced by the trial court. The area was though surrounded by the police; there was a huge gathering to know what's happening and that what could possibly be the outcome of the appeal.

Lawyers for Ajmal Kasab will seek to overturn the penalty imposed by a lower court earlier this year for waging war on India, murder, attempted murder and terrorism offences.

Confirmation of a death sentence by the state high court is required under Indian law.

Kasab is not due to attend the hearing at the Bombay High Court, which could last several months, but will follow proceedings via video-link from prison where he is being held in solitary confinement, lawyers said.

Kantha Sasti Kavasam: Kanda Shasthi Vratam is an important observance to LORD KARTHIKEYA. It is observed in the Tamil month of Aippasi ,after Deepavali( October – November) and most devotees fast during the 6-day period.

In addition to the Skanda Sashti, devotees of Lord Subramanya observe weekly and monthly days in His honour. Every Friday, or the Kartigai Nakshatram day every month, or the sixth day of the bright fortnight,-all these are sacred days for His devotees. The sixth day of the month of Tulam (October-November) is the most auspicious of them all. This is the Skanda Sashti day.

There is no common method of Skanda Shasti fasting. Different devotees observe it differently. But there are some basic rules followed by all the devotees.Non-vegetarian food is completely avoided during the period. Those who are observing the fast make it a point to read scriptures related to Lord karthikeyan ( Kanta Shasti Kavasam or Subramaniya Bhujangam,kandaguru kavasam,kanda puranam.)Most devotees also visit Skanda temples during the period.

Sashti: Sashti is the sixth phase of moon. This is an auspicious day for lord Muruga. Kanda Shasti fasting, some devotees only take a single meal a day. Some take the meal at noon and others at night. Some devotees take only fruits and juices ,coconut water and lime juice,during the 6-day period.

The Shasti fasting begins with sunrise. The fast is broken on the next day morning after praying to Lord Surya (Sun God).Most people observing the fast make it a point to visit Murugan Temple on this day. It is a complete fast in many places. But this might not be quite possible for many people due to job, health and other reasons. So many people take some sort of vegetarian food on this day � this is usually a single meal in the afternoon or night.

Many people take for a fruit diet on the day. Some avoid solid food.In several Kerala Muruga temples, many devotees eat a single rice meal at noon given from the temple. The cooked rice is consumed without any major side dishes.The method of fasting differs from region to region. But all non-vegetarian food is avoided on the day.

Devotees listen to stories related to Skanda and reading of Skanda Purana. Another activity during the day is the reciting of Kanta Shasti Kavasam.

Fasting is not just abstaining from food but it also an attempt to instill positive thoughts. Many people use fasting as a means to fight against anger, lust, impatience and other negative tendencies. All Vratas associated with Hindu religion is an attempt to realize the Brahman.

Kanda Shasti Vratam is observed once a year in the month of 'Aippasi' (October�November) starting from the 'piratamai' the 1st phase of the brightening moon.Of all Kanda temples it is the one in Tirunchendur in Tamil Nadu, India that draws the largest number of Kanda devotees. All roads, at the time of the Vratam, seem to lead to Tirunchendur. Beside the temple by the sea there appears to be a sea of heads. The Kantan’s Tiruvilaiyaadal (divine sport) Soora Samharam is enacted during the sixth day of the festival. This is a drama to grant a great boon to Curapatman by Kantan. Curapatman is given the honour of becoming Kantan’s vehicle mayil vahanam (peacock vehicle) and ceval kodi (the rooster on Kantan's flag).Skanda shasti means trimph of lord Subhramanya over the evil sura padma.The son of lord Siva killed the demon sura padma with his holy spear(vel) and brought relief and joy to the suffering demi Gods and humanity.Allegorially the vel represents Jana sakti(Power of wisdom) of the lord. Sura padma the demon of ego and ignorance with in us. Lord subhramanya is hence considered to be the personification of wisdom itself. The five days prior to skanda shashti are days of severe austerities for the devotees of Muruga. The day after skanda shshti is celebrated as Deva sena Kalyanam

Cylinder Bomb Kills 7 in Bihar: Seven persons, including five children, were killed and 12 others injured when a bomb planted by Maoists went off at Pachokhar village in Bihar’s Aurangabad district this morning.

Superintendent of police Vivek Raj Singh said the bomb, planted by the Maoists, was found by the security personnel yesterday during the sixth and final phase of elections.

However, police left the bomb in a field for follow up action to defuse it.

As the villagers went to the field this morning, the bomb suddenly exploded killing seven persons including five children on the spot, Singh said.

Twelve people, who sustained splinter injuries, were admitted to hospitals in Deo and Aurangabad towns. The condition of five of them is stated to be critical.

India Takes Calm Approach To Arundhati Remarks

Indian author Arundhati Roy, facing possible sedition charges over remarks she made about disputed Indian Kashmir, said on Tuesday she had only been calling for “justice” for the region. Roy’s statement came after police in New Delhi said they were weighing whether to bring sedition charges against the Booker prize-winning author over comments she made about Kashmir in recent days.

However, after initial signs that India's government might move to censure her remarks, it appears New Delhi has sidestepped a potential political minefield with U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to the country only a week away.

The author of the novel “The God of Small Things” issued a statement Tuesday saying her remarks urging “azadi” or freedom for Kashmir were “fundamentally a call for justice.”

The region has been beset by anti-India violence, curfews and strikes since early June, when a 17-year-old student was killed by a police teargas shell. Since then, a total of 111 protesters and bystanders have died.

“What I say comes from love and pride. It comes from not wanting people to be killed, raped, imprisoned or have their fingernails pulled out in order to force them to say they are Indians,” she said in an emailed statement.

Arundhati, who has emerged in recent years as a prominent social activist, has spoken out on two occasions in recent days on Kashmir, in one instance sharing a stage with hardline separatist Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party has objected strongly to Roy’s remarks, calling them “seditious” and accusing the Congress-led government of “looking the other way” by not taking any legal action against Roy.

Law Minister Veerappa Moily said the comments were “most unfortunate”. While there is freedom of speech, “it can’t violate the patriotic sentiments of the people,” Moily said, according to the Press Trust of India.

Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan each hold part of Kashmir but claim it in full. India insists that Kashmir is an “integral part” of the country.

The Himalayan region, which has triggered two wars between the nuclear-armed neighbours, has been wracked by a militant insurgency against Indian rule since 1989.

Rebel violence has declined sharply since the start of a peace process between India and Pakistan.

Roy said in her statement that she had read in Indian newspapers that she might be arrested on charges of sedition for her remarks supporting freedom for Kashmir.

“I said what millions of people here (in Kashmir) say every day. I said what I as well as other commentators have written and said for years,” she said.

“Anybody who cares to read the transcripts of my speeches will see that they were fundamentally a call for justice,” she said.

The Congress and the BJP put up a poor show in the four municipal elections held Sunday. Both parties barely managed to stay afloat, with only one seat going to Congress in Badlapur and BJP in Navi Mumbai.

The NCP has retained the Navi Mumbai municipality and the Shiv Sena-BJP Aurangabad and Badlapur. There was no clear winner in Ambernath, where the MNS andindependents have emerged as a strong group.

NAVI MUMBAI: In the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the NCP scored a hat-trick bagging 55 seats while its ally Congress got a mere 13.

From the opposition, the Shiv Sena got 16 seats and its ally BJP a single seat. Four independents won in the 89-strong house.

AURANGABAD: In the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, the Shiv Sena (30) and BJP (15) continued their unbroken reign of the past 25 years, winning for the sixth consecutive time.

The Congress-NCP and other allies jointly contested the elections. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan campaigned there in a bid to dislodge the SS-BJP.

The Congress finished with 19 seats, NCP 11 and MNS one seat. Independents and others got a whopping 23 seats in the 99-member house.

BADLAPUR: The Shiv Sena-BJP managed to retain the 34-member Badlapur Municipal Council (in Thane district) by bagging 12 and 7 seats respectively against the Congress' single seat show and NCP's 10 seats. The MNS got three seats while one seat went to an independent.

AMBERNATH: The Shiv Sena-BJP could not retain the 50-member Ambernath Municipal Council (also in Thane district). Though Sena emerged the single largest party with 16 seats, the BJP got only one seat.

The Congress got three seats, NCP nine and MNS six seats. Independents and others emerged as the scond largest group bagging 15 seats.

With no clear winner in Ambernath, the MNS and independents hold the key to the Sena-BJP's prospects of returning to power in the civic body.

Oman, India, Collaborate To Have Joint investment Fund

To step-up two-way investment, India and Oman are going to collaborate in using a joint investment fund of 100 million dollars. Indian External Affairs Minister, SM Krishna, after discussions with the visiting Oman Foreign Minister Yousuf Bin Alawi bin Abdullah, on regional and bilateral issues said that for the benefit of the people, they aim to channelize further investments in both economies through the joint investment fund.

He further said that presently the both countries have bilateral shared investments of about 7.53 billion dollars and trade between two countries is up to 4.5 billion dollars, which is stretched across 13 sectors.

He further said that they had lot of discussions about the developments in the relations of two countries. The discussions were about commercial and economic fields, where the relationship has grown in last few years.

Mr. Krishna further told the reporters that Oman and India had a past relationship which is marked by cordiality and warmth. He added that by regular high-level discussion between two countries, the association has been continued over the years. He further added that in last few years, the relationship has strengthened between the two countries.

Bhojpuri Actor Raja Held For Beating Up Girlfriend

Bhojpuri actor Raja Chaudhary has been arrested for beating up his girlfriend Shradha Sharma. According to reports, Shradha Sharma has been booked for causing pain by fighting in public, and will get arrested by police after getting discharge from hospital.

The police said Chaudhary went to Sharma’s home in Oshiwara, where the couple had fight over a little issue.

The loud noises had disturbed the neighbors, who informed the police about the whole incident.

Mr. KMM Prasanna, deputy commissioner of police said, “Based on his information, a complaint was registered with the Oshiwara police station.”

Sharma’s manager and secretary reported that Chaudhary entered the house around 3 a. m. using an extra pair of keys.

Due to attack by Chaudhary, Sharma got injuries all over her body and has been admitted to hospital.

The police have sent Chaudhary to undergo medical test to check whether he was drunk when the incident happened at Sharma’s home.

Recently, Chaudhary was in news reports for slapping his former wife Shweta Tiwari.

‘Tera Kya Hoga…’ not an answer to ‘Slumdog’: Sudhir Mishra

Sudhir Mishra’s much-delayed project “Tera Kya Hoga Johnny” will finally hit the screens Dec 17, but the director has brushed aside comparisons with the Oscar-winning sensation “Slumdog Millionaire” and says his film is an insider’s tribute to Mumbai.

“This is an insider making a film. I belong to Mumbai, I live here. So there are a lot of things I take for granted (when it comes to the city and its influence in the movie). And I like ‘Slumdog’, but I didn’t make ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’ as an answer to that,” Mishra told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

“However, it could be called an answer too, as some people who saw it in London said so directly,” he added.

“Tera Kya Hoga…” was shown as a work in progress at the London Film Festival and has been awaiting release since 2008.

Negating the “Slumdog” comparisons, Mishra, however, asserted that the movie is an ode to the maximum city.

“It is the story of hope, ambition and life of an unfortunate 16-year-old boy Johnny, who lives on the streets of Mumbai and sells coffee. The story is about how he pins his hope on another man (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and how it eventually turns out to be a thriller, seen through his eyes and a mysterious character,” said the National Award winner.

“It is a story of resilience of all sorts of people who are trying to rewrite the screenplay of their lives. Mumbai is one of the cities in India that offers one a chance to do so and lets one be what one wants to be. It is a tribute to the maximum city,” he added.

The fascination of Mishra, co-writer of Bollywood’s cult classic “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron”, with Mumbai is not new. He has earlier explored the city through movies like “Dharavi”, “Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi” and “Chameli”.

“I have a fascination for the city. I adore it and love it. I have an affection for that place. You can smell it in my work. I have always made films that revolve around Mumbai and its spirit,” he said.

Set at a time when the city’s officialdom is busy turning it into another Shanghai, “Tera Kya Hoga…” stars debutant Sikandar Agarwal in the lead. Neil, Soha Ali Khan, Karan Nath, Kay Kay Menon and Shahana Goswami have pivotal roles. It also stars filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Bhattacharya.

So what led to the long delay in its release?

“There were some issues… nothing to do with the film per se but with money, etc. It’s all over now,” said the director, whose last outing was “Khoya Khoya Chand” in 2007.

Major chunks of “Tera Kya Hoga Jhonny” were also leaked on YouTube. Asked if it will mar the commercial viability of the venture, Mishra said: “Not at all. It will in fact serve as a good promotional platform for the movie and help it. It will work as a kind of trailer.”

“The version that people earlier saw was an older rough cut that went to a film festival as a work in progress. That’s it. But it is now a brand new film with brand new music, some additional new footage and some scenes that have been reshot. It is now an absolutely fresh film,” he added.

The new cut of “Tera Kya Hoga Johnny” will also traverse the festival circuit.

“The real ‘Johnny’ will now go to film festivals after the release. We want to release it in Mumbai and the rest of India first. The main purpose of the film is to engage the Indian audience and then the real cut will go to festivals post-that,” he said.

Mishra doesn’t rule out the possibilities of a sequel too.

“Yes, if the script works out, then we will definitely try out a sequel as the ending is such that it can be taken forward,” he said.
