Over 15,000 crew members and maintenance engineers of Air India went on a flash strike all over India Tuesday, hitting the carrier's operations, according to airport sources. An Air India official, however, claimed flight operations were "normal and the management has no information of the strike".
Airport sources said Air India crew members and maintenance engineers went on strike for their various demands, including delays in payment of salaries.
Union sources said that on account of the sudden agitation, AI operations at most airports across the country had been severely hit and several flights were delayed.
"There were 4-5 issues for the strike, and the latest was a gag order issued by the management. There are 12,000 engineers and crew of Air India with us and operations are severely affected," said Anand Prakash, general secretary of Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU).
Airport sources in New Delhi said that the employees started gathering at the Palam airport at around 1.30 p.m. as the shifts start changing from 2 p.m.
"Their aim was to gather more people. Among the issues that has forced employees to go on strike were non-payment of salaries and controversy on serving liquor on board," said a protesting employee.
The national carrier had earlier ordered 50 percent cut in the productivity-linked incentives (PLI) to save about Rs.700 crore. PLIs currently account for 30 percent to 50 percent of Air India employees' wages. PLIs have not been paid since August.
Air India officials, however, claim that operations are not affected by the strike.
"They have just now gone on strike and as of now all flights are on time. We have to wait and see whether the strike will affect the operations. It is a time of crisis and the employees should cooperate with the management," an airline spokesperson said.
Washington: India has been given access to David Coleman Headley, Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative who has confessed to his role in the Mumbai attacks, US National Security Adviser James Jones said on Saturday.
“Yes access (to Headley) has been given. This is an ongoing process and I don’t have any detailed information that will be helpful except to say that it is in the hands of right professionals from both countries,” Jones told a news agency at his White House office.
“We have fulfilled our commitment,” he said.
However, Jones did not have detailed information about how and when a team of visiting Indian investigators was given access to Headley, who is being held in Chicago.
“We are very happy that in this world of terrorist activities that our two countries can work together to make sure that we exchange information rapidly, we exchange intelligence that we have, when we capture people that are mutual interest we try to arrange for those people to be interviewed by all interested sides in the interest of solving the problems of these networks,” he said.
Asked if this access to Headley is going to be one-time affair or whether Indian investigating agencies would be given access multiple times, Jones said: “I don’t know but the spirit of cooperation and respect for each other’s position is alive and well and we have taken the first step, we just have to wait and see whether there is any other request beyond this one."
When asked what does this case symbolises, the US National Security Adviser said: “If I were a terrorist, it would tell me that looks like India and the United states are working very closely together and that is going to make my job a lot more difficult to be successful and that’s a good thing.”
Jones said, “What we need is a network of countries that can operate in the same way with speed, with precision, with openness because there is not one country that is going to defeat terrorism; it is going to be many countries working together.”
His remarks follow visiting External Affairs Minister SM Krishna’s statement that investigations of this nature are very sensitive. The minister also did not say clearly if the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers had interrogated Headley or not.
A team of NIA officers had arrived in Chicago early this week with the objective of interrogating Headley.
“Investigations of this kind are of a very delicate and sensitive nature. We cannot go on spelling out day to day updates. Right now the time is not appropriate,” Krishna said last evening.
“There is overwhelming evidence that Headley is a conspirator in 26/11. India will use all the force at its command and will put forward the plea that we should have access to Headley,” he said, but was quick to assert that New Delhi had been assured it would get access to Headley.
“We have been assured that we will have access to Headley. How it is going to be accommodated and how it is being arranged within the legal framework is something which is being worked out within the legal framework of the United States,” Krishna said.
Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leaders in Kerala Sunday condemned Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan for “insulting” Rajiv Gandhi by holding the former prime minister responsible for the anti-Sikh riots that broke out soon after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi in October 1984.
Congress leaders had created a furore in the state assembly Friday after a slip of the tongue by Achuthanandan, who named Rajiv Gandhi, instead of Sanjay Gandhi as he recalled how the latter’s “goons” attacked a judge soon after the emergency was clamped in the country in 1975.
Opposition members rushed towards the speaker’s podium and the presiding officer adjourned the session.
However, Achuthanandan, while inaugurating a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) party office in his home district Saturday, recalled the incident in the assembly and said he “later realised that Rajiv Gandhi was no better that Sanjay Gandhi because he was responsible for the killings of Sikhs after his mother’s assassination by her Sikh bodyguards”.
He also accused Rajiv Gandhi of being instrumental in allowing safe passage for then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson soon after the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
Taking strong exception to the chief minister’s statements, Congress leader and former chief minister Oommen Chandy said that it was high time that Achuthanandan stopped airing baseless allegations.
“Rajiv Gandhi is one leader who is adored by millions across the globe. Achuthanandan has time and again proved through his conduct that he is shame to all and one who has no moral right to sit in the chair of the chief minister,” he said.
State Congress president Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here that when Indira Gandhi was killed, Rajiv Gandhi was in Calcutta, now called Kolkta, and arrived in Delhi soon after the incident.
“I was the NSUI (National Students Union of India) national president at that time and was working from Delhi. I remember Rajiv Gandhi asking us to go and visit the areas where trouble broke out to cool tempers,” he said.
Claiming “it has become a habit for Achuthanandan to air derogatory remarks”, Chennithala said that as a political leader, he is free to air statements “but he forgets that he is the chief minister and for such a person it is indeed a shameful act and he should immediately apologise”.
Meanwhile, angry activists of the Kerala Students Union (the state branch of the Congress student wing) took out protest marches at Malappuram and Kozhikode and burnt Achuthanandan’s effigy.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will leave for Saudi Arabia on Saturday on a three-day visit at the invitation of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. During his three-day visit from February 27 to March 1, Dr Singh will be accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur. Other members of the Prime Minister’s delegation will include Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora, Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor and a number of senior officials. This visit comes four years after the landmark visit of King Abdullah to India. He was the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day in 2006. Renuka Sugars, India-based Shree Renuka Sugars Limited (SRSL) has entered into definitive agreements with Brazil's Grupo Equipav for an investment of R$ 600 million (US$329 million, INR 1,530 crores) leading to a majority, controlling equity stake in Equipav S.A. A?úCAR e áLCOOL (Equipav), one of the largest sugar/ethanol companies in Brazil.
Equipav has two large sugar/ethanol mills with integrated co-generation facilities in Sao Paulo state in Southeast Brazil having a combined cane crushing capacity of 10.5 million tons of cane per annum (44,400tcd). In addition, Equipav has a co-generation capacity of 203 MW. The mills will be expanded to a combined capacity of 12.0 million tons (56,600 tcd) per annum and 295 MW with a capital expenditure of R$218 million. Cane supply comes from the cultivation of about 115,000 ha of land of which nearly two-thirds is farmed with a very high level of mechanization for both planting and harvesting. The mills have easy access to the main ports of Santos and Paranagua.
Shree Renuka Sugars will achieve (after closing adjustments) a majority stake of not less than 50.79%. The balance stake in the venture would be held by the founding Equipav group. Equipav had net debt of approximately R$1.5 billion as on 31 Dec 2009 (US$822 million, INR 3,821 crores). The investment will fund capital expenditure as mentioned above, pay down debt and increase working capital. The deal is subject to approval of an acceptable debt restructuring package by lenders and certain other customary conditions.
Closing is expected in 40 days. Banco Itau BBA, Brazil and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors acted as the strategic and financial advisors to Shree Renuka. Veirano e Advogados Associados, Brazil and Crawford Bayley & Co. acted as legal advisors.
In November 2009, SRSL announced the agreement to acquire 100% of Vale Do Ivai, a Brazilian sugar/ethanol production company. That acquisition included two sugar/ethanol production facilities in the state of Parana, with a combined cane crushing capacity of 3.1 million tons of cane per annum and a shareholding in logistic assets including terminals for storage and loading of sugar and ethanol at the port of Paranagua.

Mumbai bombing suspect David Coleman Headley is set to change his plea to guilty in a US court on charges of helping to plan the deadly 2008 attacks, court records showed Tuesday. Headley, 49, is accused of being a scout for two different Pakistan-based terrorist groups who used a friend’s immigration company as a cover for surveillance activities in India and Denmark. Headley, who has been cooperating with prosecutors since his October arrest, was to appear in a Chicago federal court Thursday for a change of plea hearing, court documents showed. It was not clear whether Headley would plead guilty to all or just some of the charges against him and prosecutors declined to comment on what a deal might entail. He could face the death penalty if convicted of all 12 charges laid against him in Chicago. The Washington-born son of a former Pakistani diplomat and American mother, Headley reportedly befriended Bollywood stars and even dated an actress during his lengthy surveillance trips to Mumbai. Headley and his friend Tahawwur Hussain Rana were arrested on terror charges related to a plot to attack Denmark’s highest circulating daily, Jyllands-Posten, and kill an editor and the cartoonist. They were later charged in the Mumbai attacks. Headley had pled not guilty to the charges but has long been expected to eventually reach a plea deal with prosecutors.

Kolkata: CPI-M and Trinamool Congress workers clashed on Sunday during the fiercely-contested West Bengal civic polls, which recorded a high voter turnout of around 75 per cent.
The polls, seen as a semi-final before the 2011 Assembly elections, were held in 81 civic bodies and in the 141-ward Kolkata Municipal Corporation involving an electorate of 85 lakh.
Counting of votes will take place on June 2.
State Election Commission chairperson Meera Pandey said that re-poll was likely to be ordered in two booths in Kolkata.
Altogether 45 arrests were made in the districts and the city for indulging in violence.
A voter received bullet injuries when a Tripura police constable reportedly opened three rounds of fire at a polling booth at Patuli in South 24-Parganas district.
The injured, identified as Bapi Dhar, earlier had an altercation with the policeman and was rushed to a hospital, IGP (law and order) S Purakayastha said.
The Tripura Police personnel were manning the booth located at Kendua Girls’ High School at Patuli which falls under Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee’s Jadavpore Assembly constituency.
An inquiry would be ordered into the incident, the IGP said.
In Burdwan, nine persons, including two policemen and a Trinamool candidate, were injured when Trinamool and CPI-M activists clashed during polling at Jamuria municipality.
Police said the two sides clashed while voting was on at Sripur in Burdwan district. When the police reached the spot, stones were thrown at them damaging two of their jeeps.
Sripur police station officer-in-charge Saikat Ray and another policeman were injured in the brick-batting, while Trinamool candidate Sadhan Chandra Ray was injured in the clash.
Trinamool supporters clashed with the police in some wards of Hooghly district.
The IGP said Trinamool workers ransacked a police van at Sripur in Burdwan district.
Some crude bombs were recovered from Liluah in Howrah district where police seized two motorcycles and made one arrest.
EVM hitches slowed down the polling process in some booths, the officer said.
He said para-military forces were extensively used for guarding booths and in mobile patrolling.
Of the 81 municipalities spread across 16 districts of the state, the CPI(M)-led Left Front was in power in 55 civic bodies, Congress in 11 and Trinamool Congress in 8. Congress and Trinamool Congress jointly formed boards in six municipalities.
Congress, with the help of Independents, constituted board in one municipality in Murshidabad district.
In the outgoing 141-ward Kolkata Municipal Corporation Board, the CPI(M)-led Left Front had 75 seats, while Trinamool Congress had 42, followed by Congress 21 and BJP 3.
For the Left, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) polls is a prestige issue since it had snatched it from the TC in 2005.
All the three major players — Left, TC and Congress — have a lot at stake in today’s polls. For Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a good showing by the Left can be projected as their revival from the debacle of the last Lok Sabha elections when it won just 15 seats out of 42 against Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s 19.
For the TC chief, who has campaigned vigorously for the polls, the results are expected to give enough indications on whether she will ride to power in the assembly polls due next May.
An important factor is that Trinamool has parted ways with the Congress for the civic polls and may choose to go it alone in the assembly elections if the outcome of today’s exercise went in its favour.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will on Thursday address a meeting of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) here where she is expected to articulate the party thinking on issues like the situation in Kashmir, alleged corruption in Commonwealth Games preparations and Nuclear Liability Bill. Sonia is also likely to address the forthcoming assembly elections in Bihar.
This will be the first meeting of CPP since the monsoon session of Parliament began on July 26. It could not be held earlier as Gandhi was in the US attending to her ailing mother.
A meeting of the Congress working committee is also expected soon to finalise the schedule for the Congress president’s election. Gandhi has created a record by being at the helm of the organisation since April 1998 and she is set to get a fourth term.

Lucknow: In a show of defiance ignoring all criticism, BSP chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Wednesday got herself garlanded with currency notes said to be of the value of Rs 18 lakh. The garland comprising notes of various denominations was put around her neck at a meeting of party leaders despite an opposition outcry over her being presented a similar garland of value estimated between Rs 21 lakh and Rs 15 crore at a massive rally here on Monday.
“Wherever she goes, she will henceforth be greeted with garland of notes and not with garland of flowers,” state PWD Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui told reporters after the meeting.
The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo has came under sharp attack inside and outside Parliament after she got the “multi crore” currency garland comprising notes of Rs 1000.
The IT department has decided to investigate the source of the money for the garland presented to her at the ‘Maha’ rally.
The Congress, BJP and Samajwadi Party have also demanded a CBI probe.? Siddiqui had yesterday rejected speculation that the value of notes in the garland ran into crores of rupees, saying that the money totalled only Rs 21 lakh.
“We today presented another garland of Rs 18 lakh to the party supremo (Mayawati) collected by party units in all 18 divisions in the state,” Siddiqui, who is also the BSP National General Secretary, said.
“In future, where ever her programmes are held, we will welcome her with currency notes, but the final decision rest on the party supremo,” he said.
Siddiqui alleged that the opposition parties attempted to foil the party’s Lucknow rally organised on the occasion of party’s silver jubilee and also its founder Kanshiram’s birth anniversary.
“When they (opposition) were left with no other issue, they then unnecessarily raked up the garland issue,” he alleged.
“The Opposition’s cheap attempt has resulted in resentment among party workers,” he said.
Siddiqui said that to give a reply to the opposition parties, party workers from all divisions in the state decided to present another garland to Mayawati.

A trial court in Delhi first acquitted Sharma in 2006. The Delhi High Court then reversed that decision.
Sharma appealed to the Supreme Court against the high court's verdict that found him guilty.

New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that former Union Carbide chairman Warren Anderson was let off by the then chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Arjun Singh, to control the deteriorating law and order situation in Bhopal.
"It is clear in Arjun Singh's statement, which he had made then that law and order situation was deteriorating. People frenzy was on high, therefore it was thought necessary to move out Warren Anderson," Mukherjee said.
The move is being seen as an attempt to save Arjun Singh, who has been recently facing huge criticism over escape of the main accused Anderson after the 1984 Bhopal gas leak.
The former aviation director of Madhya Pradesh had earlier said that Union Carbide's CEO Warren Andersen's escape was state-managed.
RS Sondhi had said, "We had got clear instructions from the office of then Chief Minister Arjun Singh, who wanted Andersen to be flown out of Bhopal."
"I gave instructions in this regard after getting clearance from the office of Chief Minister Arjun Singh," Sondhi added.
He had further claimed that top officials of the then MP government made all necessary arrangements so that Andersen could be flown out in the shortest possible time.
Moti Singh, who was the district collector of Bhopal at the time of gas leak, has also said that Anderson was arrested at around 2 pm on December 07 but he was released on the same day and flew to New Delhi in a state government plane.
Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday had said the Government of India is trying to extradite Anderson, the prime accused in the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy, from the United States.
“We are trying to extradite Anderson,” said Mukherjee responding to the queries of the media persons.
A District Magistrate’s Court in Bhopal had on June 07 convicted all eight accused on grounds of negligence under Section 304 (a) for the tragedy.
The court also granted bail to seven of the eight accused and released them on submission of a bond and a surety of Rs 25,000 each.
The eight accused are Keshub Mahendra, Vijay Gokhle, Kishore Kamdar, J Mukund, SP Choudhary, KV Shetty and SI Qureshi and RB Roy Choudhary.
Out of the accused RB Roy Choudhary, then former assistant works manager, Union Carbide India Ltd (UCIL), Mumbai, died during the trial.
Anderson, the chairman of Union Carbide Worldwide, has been designated an absconder.

Latest News Update About Priyanka Gandhi:After Madhuri Dixit backed out from the project on personal grounds, Indian origin US filmmaker Krishna Shah is now considering casting Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra in the lead role in a biopic on late prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Titled 'Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story', it will be a big-budget two-part movie on the life of the Indian leader who was known as Iron Lady. Shah is working on the casting with Academy Award winning make-up artiste Jenny Shircore.
After going through the photographs of many Indian actresses, Shircore believes that Priyanka is the only Bollywood actress whom she can make look like Indira Gandhi after some prosthetic work on her face, Shircore says Priyanka's face matches that of the late prime minister.
'Yes, I am in conversation with Jenny who thinks that Priyanka is the one who can fit in the character of Indira, but it will be too premature to talk about casting as we have not approached anybody as yet,' Shah said in a statement.
Madhuri could not do the movie because of her mother-in-law's illness.
Shah is reportedly also in conversation with other actors like Albert Finney, Emily Watson, Tom Hanks and Tommy Lee Jones to play other characters in the film.
The first part of the movie will be based on Indira Gandhi's life till the 1971 war, while part two will look more into her personal life as a mother to her sons ― Rajiv, who succeeded her as the prie minister, and Sanjay Gandhi.
The script of the movie has also undergone changes.
'The script has been reworked after I got my hands on Richard Nixon's personal tapes related to the 1971 Bangladesh War. My research has changed the script a lot and now we are looking at casting an appropriate face for Indira Gandhi's character,' said Shah.
NEW DELHI: Pakistani delegation has arrived in India to take part in negotiations over a range of issues with the neighbouring country. Talking to media at airport before leaving for India, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said all issues including water problem will be brought under discussion in the bilateral talks.
He said no change has been made in the delegation.
Pakistan wants the negotiation process to move forward to reach some final conclusion, Bashir said, 'There is no set agenda for the talks; instead, the dialogues would be held on open agenda.'
On query about Indian interference in Balochistan, the Foreign Secretary said the issue was mulled over in Sharm el-Sheikh and the terrorism was declared as the common problem; accordingly, Balochistan issue would also be on the table.

Mumbai Meri Jaan: LaIt's been almost a month that I have come back to Pune, but I just can't get the 'city of dreams' out of my head. I have to admit that Mumbai is a very addictive city. Once you stay here, say even for a year or two the pace just gets on to you. You become so used to the fast life that other cities seem to be duller than ever. Similar thing has happened to me.I am a proud Punekar and just love my city. But a two-year stint in Mumbai has made me rethink. I have visited Mumbai every year as my grandparents stayed there but staying for earning my bread and butter was a hell of an experience. Traveling by local trains, observing people of different linguistic backgrounds, trying to understand alien tongues was so much of a challenge and I loved every minute of it.
The sea was my favourite and luckily I always stayed near the sea- in Jogeshwari (nearest was Juhu beach), Bandra (used to go to Bandstand for jogging) and Prabhadevi (near the Worli sea face). I used to love the five star food reviews, the occasional celebrity spotting and the trips to Marine Drive and my classes at Max Mueller Bhavan in Kalaghoda. The occasional AC bus rides via Haji Ali, the picturesque Haji Ali road, the oh-so-posh Peddar Raod and Breach Candy, I miss it all.
The yummy fruit juice at the Haji Ali Juice Centre, the Cannon Pav Bhaji near CST, McDonalds near CST, Rasraj Mushroom Pav Bhaji at Fort, Delhi Durbar at Marine Lines, Aditi Juice Centre at Andheri were some of my favourite eating haunts.

Women S Reservation Bi, The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tuesday urged the government to amend the women’s reservation bill to provide a separate quota to women from Dalit, the Scheduled Tribes, backward classes as well as poor from upper castes. It also felt that the reservation should be 50 percent. Speaking after the bill was put to vote in the Rajya Sabha, BSP member Satish Chandra Misra said the legislation did not do justice towomen from weaker sections. “The bill will help only a limited number of people. It has not cared for interests of women belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, backward classes and socially and economically backward sections among the upper castes. We oppose the bill,” he said.
The constitutional amendment bill seeks to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Misra said his party chief Mayawati had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking reservation for women belonging to weaker sections.
He said reservation for Dalit women should be in addition to the existing benefits provided to the community.
Misra said his party felt that 33 per cent reservation for women was “discrimination” against them as they constitute 50 per cent of the country’s population.
“The bill should be brought again after removing its shortcomings,” he said, claiming that the present legislation will push the Dalits backwards.

Kolkata: June 14: The Principal of La Martiniere School for Boys Sunirmal Chakravarthi has regretted caning Class VIII student Rouvanjit Rawla, who committed suicide later, and said that he would never cane again.
As per a report published in a leading daily on Tuesday, the Principal of La Martiniere School has tendered an apology to the board of governors of the school for the corporal punishment meted out to Rouvanjit Rawla terming it as a mistake.
Drawing lessons from Rouvanjit's case, Chakravarthi also assured that corporal punishment would never again be practised in the school.
However, he categorically denied that caning in school drove Rouvanjit to commit suicide.
"The board made it abundantly clear that corporal punishment was strictly prohibited. I apologised to them. It will not be practised any more," Chakravarthi was quoted as saying.
The matter came to light after 13-year-old Rouvanjit committed suicide in his home in Alipore on February 12 this year, the day he was hauled up by teachers for "gross indiscipline" in the classroom.
An internal inquiry committee was set up to probe the case. The committee found the principal guilty of administering corporal punishment to Rouvanjit but did not link it to his death.
The board however warned the principal for using corporal punishment, as per the rules of the school. According to the rulebook, warning is the first action against such an offence, if the offence is repeated a second time, it would lead to suspension and if repeated a third time, it would lead to termination.
Apart from the action taken by the board, Bishop Ashok Biswas, the chairman of the prestigious school's board of governors, also wrote letters to every teacher in the school advising against corporal punishment.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which is probing the case, wants Sunirmal Chakarvarthy and three teachers – LG Gunnion, Partha Dutta and Anand Bhaju – suspended pending inquiry into the Rouvanjit Rawla suicide case.
“We are likely to say that during the period of police investigation at least the principal and three teachers should be suspended otherwise it won’t be a fair and impartial investigation. It will be difficult for the police to record statements of the students in the presence of the principal,” said NCPCR member Ashok Agarwal.
“We will in the report say that corporal punishment was rampant in the school. The possibility of linking this humiliation to the suicide cannot be ruled out. Had this humiliation not taken place this death could have been avoided,” he added.
Rouvanjit’s family has filed a complaint against four teachers and principal Sunirmal Chakravarti, accusing them of misbehaving with their son and torturing him.
They have been charged under Section 305 (abetment to suicide of child) of the IPC, which is non-bailable.

There was high drama outside Madani's residence as a large crowd of teary-eyed supporters gathered to bid their leader an emotional farewell.
Madani left his residence shortly after mid-day prayers to surrender before a local magistrate court. But as soon as emerged from his orphanage-cum-madrassa complex at Anwarassery, a heavy contingent of Kerala police in riot gear stalled the vehicle to allow Karnataka officials to arrest him.
Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of Police Omkarayya executed the warrant against Madani with the support of Kerala police. The arrest took place without any law and order problems except some slogan shouting by supporters hailing their leader.
Addressing the media earlier in the day, Madani said he was being falsely implicated in the case as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy.
"When I read about warrant in papers, I spoke to my lawyers. This is a conspiracy against me. I approached the court for bail as it is the right of every citizen," said Madani.
Appealing for calm, Madani asked party workers to protest through democratic means.
"I don't believe I can return alive from Karnataka. I may be implicated in many other terror cases. I am suffering from a host of diseases but will surrender. If they arrest me in between, let them do," he said.
Madani was listed as the 31st accused in an additional chargesheet filed by the police last month after confessions by suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba operative T Nazir linking him to the Bangalore blasts that left one person dead and 20 others injured.
A team of the Bangalore Police reached the Magistrate Court near Madani's residence on Tuesday even as the PDP leader's supporters said his health had worsened and he will not be able to travel to Bangalore.
The Bangalore police had been in Kerala waiting to arrest Madani in the 2008 Bangalore blasts case ever since a Karnataka court denied him bail.
Madani has been charged in the past for inflammatory speeches and is also believed to have links with the Laskhar e Toiba.

It may be recalled here that after the states objected to a clause in the draft GST bill giving the federal finance minister veto power over state tax matters, the finance minister dropped this clause altogether.
In fact, in addition to it the finance minister also promised states another revised draft of the GST bill to reflect these concessions. It may be noted here that the Direct Tax Code Bill will be tabled in the current session of the Parliament.

Shashi Tharoor, who quit as minister of state for external affairs over his alleged links to the Kochi Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, says in his latest tweet that he looks forward to a “thorough inquiry” into the Twenty20 cricket tournament.
Tharoor, who was very active on social networking site Twitter before the IPL controversy unfolded, tweeted late Friday: “Looking forward to a thorough inquiry into the IPL. If my resignation leads to real reform, it will be worthwhile. Our cricket should be clean.”

Latest Update News About Anil Nanda: Anil Nanda Group Company Akme Projects Ltd today announced joint venture with private equity firm MPC Synergy Real Estate to develop seven premium housing projects with an equity investment of about Rs 1,000 crore.
The 50:50 joint venture, named Akme Rhine River Projects will develop seven projects at Ludhiana, Mohali, Greater Noida and two each in Bangalore and Gurgaon by 2012. The JV is expecting a total sales turnover of Rs 7,000 crore by then.
MPC Synergy Real Estate is a JV between Geneva-based private equity investment fund Synergy Asset Management Fund and MPC Capital, the largest listed fund in Germany with over $ 18.5 billion assets under management.
"The total equity investment by joint venture in all the three phases will be close to Rs 1,000 crore in 50:50 partnership," Akme Projects Chairman and Manging Director Anil Nanda told reporters here.
"We are looking at a sales turnover of Rs 7,000 crore by 2012 from all the phases," he added. The JV would develop more than 7,600 apartments and 400 villas in 7 projects, which will be launched in the current fiscal, company's Chief Operating Officer Sonal Nanda said.
The Ludhiana project was launched today, which will be followed by Mohali and Bangalore in first phase. The JV would develop 1,700 high-end flats, costing about Rs one crore, in first phase with an expected turnover of Rs 1,900 crore.
When asked about the total investment which would be made to develop these seven projects, company's CMD Anil Nanda said the projects for second and third phases were at still drawing board so it would be difficult to arrive at total cost.
However, he said both the partners were open to put in more equity if required to build these projects.

That's the sum and substance of Swami Nityananda's startling statements to CID sleuths soon after he was brought to Bangalore after being arrested in Himachal Pradesh.
However, CID sleuths decided to ignore him, believing he was only trying to sidetrack the investigation. The swami's passport clearly mentions his gender as male, not transgender. The CID plans to take a call on this after receiving the report of the Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad, on a CD that has 36 video clips of Nityananda with at least five different women. The CID had sent the CD to Hyderabad for analysis and hopes to get the report on Friday, sources said.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) issued a circular to all airports to check items carried by the godman when he travelled in and out of India. According to information collected by DRI, Nityananda would carry gold-plated worship material like kamandalas and slippers to the US.
While returning, he would bring back 24-carat gold of the same size and weight. The look-out notice mentions his gender as male, sources said.
WHERE IS NITYA GOPIKA?
CID sleuths are also searching for Nityananda's associate called Nitya Gopika, who hasn't been seen after the salacious videos were aired by the media. Nitya Gopika was his close associate and always travelled with him to the US and handled his personal belongings.
Sleuths haven't been able to establish her identity. They suspect she was one of the girls who signed Nityananda's non-disclosure clause. Sleuths suspect Nitya Gopika initiated the video recording after she began to feel insecure when Tamil actress Ranjitha become rather close to the godman. She used his driver Kuruppan Lenin to expose Nityananda's activities, the sources said.
The sources also suspect that Nitya Gopika is an NRI with a doctorate from the US. After coming to the ashram and signing the non-disclosure agreement, she divorced her husband.
