Mumbai, India: Today Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated in various states of India with pomp and excitement but Mumbai is where the residents are overtly excited and upbeat about the festivities. In Mumbai the festival lasts for 10 days according to the tradition and everyone from the common man to the celebrities are taking part in the celebration. A number of film stars and socialites of Mumbai have sent their wishes to their friends and fans online. A lot of stars and directors including Amitabh Bachchan,
Anupam Kher, Shammi Kapoor and Shekhar Kapoor have wished their fans and friends through the popular social networking sites. Even actor Abhishek Bachchan flew back to the country from abroad so that he could take part in the celebration with his family.
Mumbai Police in the meantime has stepped up the security level following intelligence inputs that two high profile criminals have sneaked in the state and can create trouble in the festive season. The city of Mumbai is wearing a festive look because along with Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid a major festival for the Muslims is being celebrated on the same day. The Police have kept sniffer dogs, bomb disposal squad and paramilitary forces ready in case any untoward event takes place. A lot of cultural programs are also taking place in the city. The local TV networks are airing various programs on the occasion.
The stars have appealed to the people belonging to the different religions to maintain peace and communal harmony. The Police is deploying additional staff to ensure that everything passes off smoothly during the week long festivity.
